Aker BP is an oil and gas exploration and production company operating on the Norwegian continental shelf. It is among the largest independent publicly listed oil companies in Europe. The Norwegian continental shelf is becoming increasingly complex, making it more difficult to identify new well sites and oil sources. To accelerate discovery and reduce costs, Aker BP is investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) to power the next generation of oil exploration.
However, legacy data management practices — characterized by limited governance and highly manual processes — posed a major obstacle to fully leveraging AI for trusted, data-driven insights.
Aker BP recognized that becoming the energy producer of the future required a strategic, enterprise-wide approach to data management. The company needed trusted, consistent data products to fuel AI-driven exploration, accelerate field development and improve operational efficiency.

With its AI and analytics strategy built on Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Fabric, partnering with Profisee for master data management was a natural fit. Aker BP launched the initiative in September 2024, supported by both Profisee and Avanade EMEA in configuring and deploying the solution.
In less than twelve months, Aker BP successfully delivered 70 consumption-ready data products to its AI and business teams — each curated and trusted to support critical decision-making and innovation.
