The State of Master Data Management (MDM) in Healthcare

Turning data complexity into coordinated, data-driven patient care

Healthcare organizations are facing unprecedented data challenges, from regulatory pressures to the demand for real-time care coordination. The State of Master Data Management (MDM) in Healthcare reveals how healthcare leaders are transforming complexity into clarity through master data management.

MDM in Healthcare Is Maturing

Based on insights from 15 healthcare organizations within a global sample of 75 MDM users, this report shows that one-third of healthcare enterprises have reached impressive MDM maturity. With 67% of survey respondents representing billion-dollar organizations, the sector is proving that even in high-stakes, regulated environments, MDM can drive measurable outcomes for patient safety, operational efficiency and compliance.

The Value of Trusted Data Across Care Systems

MDM delivers results far beyond IT. Surveyed organizations report tangible gains in:

  • Analytics and reporting: 73.3% of respondents using MDM reported analytics improvements driving population health insights
  • Clinical operations: 53.3% of respondents reported gains in clinical operations improving care quality
  • Supply chain performance: 40.0% of respondents reported optimized supply chains, including better inventory and resource management

…and much more!

These findings underscore how trusted, connected data is now the backbone of healthcare performance, helping support real-time decision-making, quality metrics and value-based care initiatives.

Where Healthcare Leaders Go Next

The report offers a practical roadmap to advancing MDM success. Key strategies include starting with high-value domains like patient and provider data, securing executive sponsorship and aligning MDM metrics with business and clinical outcomes. Organizations that take this approach are achieving faster ROI, stronger governance and a unified foundation for digital transformation.
