So, I wanted to say a HUGE BIG thank you to all the listeners out there for your support and I’m hugely excited about where the show will go in the future.

On today's episode I'm delighted to have Karen Jean-Francois! I was bowled over when I heard that Karen started out as an athlete and so I decided to look her up! Amazing! She ran for Harrow and France! In 15/16 she was pretty much in position 1 for many competitions in the heptathlon! She’s super focused and I loved her passion, positive energy and found her incredibly inspirational!

So moving on from athletics she branched into data analyst/data scientist. She is currently Analytics Manager – Operations at Monzo Bank.

She often talks about her fears and how she had to face head-on into impostor syndrome early on in her career as she was labeled too shy to succeed in a client-facing role, and she struggled to find her space and voice. But she is relentless in pursuit of self-help and says she’s a little bit of a self-help addict. By Overcoming these challenges she is now helping analysts in their development, improving their performance, and retelling her story so that they can be hugely effective in their roles.

She’s also a fellow podcaster and is the host of the Women in Data podcast. As well as this you can find her on thethrivinganalyst.com where she helps data analytics professionals ace their careers.

So, I wanted to say a HUGE BIG thank you to all the listeners out there for your support and I’m hugely excited about where the show will go in the future.

On today's show I'm delighted to have Aaron Wilkerson with me.

Aaron and I connected on LinkedIn approx. 3 years ago and what I loved about him was his curiosity. It’s something that has been with him for a long time ever since he was a child, he would take toys apart and then reassemble them with good and bad results. But what I found in our conversation was a man of faith and deep thinking.

Aaron is currently Sr. Manager Data Strategy & Governance at Carhartt the industrial clothing label that has now become quite the fashion in Europe! He enjoys collaborating with people to find out how he can best use his skills to help them be successful in what they are attempting to achieve. The common theme that is pervasive across his experiences is leveraging technology to drive value. Technology is such a powerful tool to bring about innovation and transform those who are able to interact with it.

He claims to be a professional nerd and lifelong learner and the mantra he believes in is this "If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate." A wordle fan and is fiercely competitive with his wife and Aaron I’m still waiting for those dashboards and analysis! Also a collector of T-shirts to remember his life from school, college, university and onwards!

So, I wanted to say a HUGE BIG thank you to all the listeners out there for your support and I’m hugely excited about where the show will go in the future.

On today's episode, I'm delighted to have Piyush Malik with me.

Piyush and I spoke on the day of Diwali which is for those who don’t know what it is, it’s the Hindu festival that celebrates good over evil and is often referred to as the festival of lights. Another cricket lover his mantra is “never give up” which has been his view since he was about 10 whether it was in the sports arena, in school and life in general.

Piyush is currently Chief Digital & Transformation Officer at Veridic Solutions. He specializes in harnessing the power of data-driven innovations driving adoption of cloud-first technologies and rapidly accelerating AI/ML and automation journeys in the enterprise. As an organizational transformation agent, he believes in combining the power of people, culture, and technology to generate outsized returns for the stakeholders.

I would describe him as a spiritual technologist, well at least that’s what I thought from our conversation. A keen artist who has now given up fine art and painting landscapes for doodling while in meetings! I’ve got to see some of those doodles! As well as this he loves banging his drum, no seriously, he’s a drummer of sorts and loves music!

Ranil is super passionate about all things people and looks at the world of data and analytics through the lens of diversity in skill, thought, background and not necessarily just from a tech perspective. He believes in being your authentic self in the workplace and not being a corporate automaton. His first aha moment in data was the moment he felt like a data detective and hunting down the insights made him feel at home.

Ranil is currently the Group Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Lloyds Banking Group. Helping Britain Prosper is our Bank’s Purpose and enabling this very inspiring mission with Data and A.I is his goal. He is the accountable Executive for delivering the Bank's Data Strategy.

I loved the conversation with Ranil and his spiritual side shone through, not only the fact he wants to go and spend a year in an ashram, but also would love to teach “how to be happy” at school to remind children that it’s not just about facts and figures, but true happiness. He’s never afraid to try new things and loves to have people around him who challenge him and keep him on his toes! Srini is a matter of fact, down to earth no nonsense kind of guy! I don’t think I’ve met anyone as focused and to the point on delivery and success. He doesn’t even listen to music as he doesn’t have time for it! A professor turned industry expert, he decided to go into industry after being reaching the ripe old age of 40 in professordom, and wanted to take his knowledge of strategy and implementation into the big wide world! Nothing bothers him and he tends not to take things seriously! A man after my own heart!

Ep 22: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Joti Balani

Ep 22: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Joti Balani

It was an absolute pleasure to speak to Joti and I really loved her human-first approach, of getting to know people and understanding their motivations.  She's a singer and is currently being coached by a child prodigy. She also loves the song "Jalebi Baby" - for those who don't know a "jalebi" is the name for an Indian sweet dish made of sugar and flour, then fried into circular form and it results in an orange color. Yummy!  She doesn't interview people she understands their background and their purpose.  That's cool and you tend to get more out of people instead of canned responses.

Joti is the Founder & Managing Director, Freshriver.ai - Creative Architects designing and delivering complex enterprise grade transformations with AI, Data and Social Sciences.

What I loved about our discussion was her openness about the education system that she currently believes is broken and there should be more of an "apprentice style" system in the US.  Her passion is to own a cafe by the beach and get to know all of those people who pass by, buy a coffee and something to eat and get to know their stories.  A powerful story teller Joti looking at data in the same way we look at the blood in our bodies and how it can affect us when diseased, just like the data if it's bad, it's going to give you a bad output.

As you can tell I had a lot of fun with Joti and she loves to be in flow. I hope you enjoy this episode please do like, share, and comment, and enjoy listening to Joti. Behind every data leader there is a person and here is Joti unplugged.

Episode 21: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Ivan Martinez

Episode 21: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Ivan Martinez

Our preamble before the interview was really insightful for me. We talked about our families, our cultures, and our values and it seemed that Ivan and I have had similar experiences in life. He’s super focused and lives with a form of discipline around him that is fantastic, a triathlon athlete and now training for the big Iron Man which he hopes to complete soon!

Here is a little more about Ivan. He’s currently Vice President of Operational Excellence and Business Analytics at KSI Auto Parts.

I loved our discussion for many reasons, Ivan’s passion for the climate and his small way of doing things to help the climate, his huge positivity almost rubs off on you, and his balance between discipline and creativity! Plus his tenacious and almost infectious passion for data and analytics, his lifelong application of learning with his daughters, and his love of Python. What resonated for me is simply this: in the world of data and analytics with all the trends that are amassing, the one piece of advice that he gave which equally supports my values is this: if you are thinking about or are already in a data career – make it your objective to sit, study, and learn everything about what your business does.

As you can tell I had a lot of fun with Ivan and loved his thoughtful, fun, and focus on life. I hope you enjoy this episode please do like, share, and comment, and enjoy listening to Ivan. Behind every data leader there is a person and here is Ivan unplugged.

Episode 20: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Dan Everett

Episode 20: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Dan Everett

I’ve known Dan for a few years now and we have been engaged on LinkedIn getting to know each other. When Dan expressed interest on coming onto the show, I was delighted. Here is a little more about Dan. He’s currently Vice President Product and Solution Marketing - MDM, Data Quality, Governance, & Privacy at Informatica.

I loved our discussion and his thought process, he is heavily into Neuroscience and philosophy thinking about some of the difficult subjects in the data and tech world such as bias attempting to bring them to life in human form.

As you can tell I had a lot of fun with Dan and loved his positive and fun-loving approach to life. I hope you enjoy this episode please do like, share, and comment and I hope you enjoy listening to Dan. Behind every data leader there is a person and here is Dan unplugged.

Episode 19: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Vijay Yadav

Episode 19: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Vijay Yadav

The pre-discussion with Vijay was fantastic and we instantly hit it off! We talked about his passion for cooking fusion food, his trips to the Napa valley, his family and the various trips they take to new destinations.

I’m sure you will notice that these and plenty other themes come up in this fantastic episode. Here is a little more about Vijay. He’s currently Director of Quantitative Science, and Head of Data Science at the centre for mathematical sciences for Merck.

What I loved about our discussion was his passion for data strategy and how he loved to drive business value and outcomes solving complex problems, collaborating through data science and advanced analytics.

A few accolades that I can mention he won the 2021 manufacturing leadership award for the best AI/ML driven data product, he led the AI enabled HawkAVI data product that automated vision inspections to reduce drug product false rejects by 25% and he previously won the AstraZeneca innovation award.

As you can tell Vijay loves to succeed and talks about the many times he has and also the many times he’s failed. But dedicated to his craft these are all learning experiences and he’s persistent to get over hurdles and never stops.

Andy and I met back in 2014 on a large transformation programme we were both working on.  We are also Accenture Alumni and one thing that I love about him is that while he's passionate about data, he's super passionate about the business.  I would say we hit it off as we were both thinking about how we could speak in the purist of business languages, while delivering excellence in what we did!  Even though I've known him for so long there are things that I only found out about him on 66 question and one of those is that he's a musician!  A drummer in fact and those genes have been passed down to his son!  Must be a super noisy place!

I think you will love this episode as I did and I won't give any more information away! Here is Andy, with insights into who he is and what makes him tick! As always, behind every data leader there is a person and here is Andy unplugged!

Ep12: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Drew Smith

Ep12: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Drew Smith

Drew and I met in August 2020 through the popular platform that is LinkedIn.  What struck me is the depth of thought almost philosophical that Drew engages in around the topics of business in particular - people, process, data and technology.

A business minded individual with a flair for driving business goals and outcomes through data, he and I have had many discussions about the industry, how businesses are dealing with this thing called data and what leadership is required.

Well, in today's episode Drew lets us into his own beliefs and values, who he really is and how he sees himself and the world.  I loved this episode as there is a certain ease with which words roll off Drew's tongue.  It's been wonderful to know and learn more from Drew as our conversations are always collaborative learning experiences.

Here are his personal insights and of course, behind every data leader, there is a person.  Here is Drew unplugged!

Ep11: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Kate Strachnyi

I first met Kate in 2019 and interviewed her for my data leaders series way back when, which is on YouTube.  Zip to 2022 and Kate has launched her own brand DATAcated.  She's got a great philosophy to life, is an avid reader, watches very little TV and gets up at 5am to get all of the things that she wants to do before the rest of the family awake.  I've watched Kate from a distance since 2019, going from corporate employee to data influencer and her relentless drive to achieve all she can is an absolute inspiration to me and to others.  She is extremely personable and I believe that comes through in the interview.

We had a lot of laughs and of course behind every data leader, there is a person and here is Kate unplugged!

Ep10: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Jason Krantz

Ep10: 66 Questions Data Leaders Unplugged: Jason Krantz

Jason and I met in 2018 and it seems that we have known each other for years! I remember one of our earliest conversations that we had and his use of the word "domination" was brilliant! He would use it as a way to say "go do what you have to do and do it with excellence" so I loved that word put into that context.  We both have our own companies and have the scars to prove what the life of an entrepreneur is like and wow does it have it's up and downs!  Hopefully, we can experience more ups than downs!

What I liked about our chat is the positivity that Jason brings to the table, his innate understanding of people and the tenacity he brings to the table.  It seems that if we lived around the corner from each other we would probably be shouting over the fence with fervour and ticking off our neighbours!  :-)

Well, with that said, I think people will enjoy this episode listening into his approach to life and the purpose behind it.

Of course behind every data leader, there is a person and here is Jason unplugged!

About Jason:

Jason's goal is to help people make better decisions faster and with more confidence. He dos this by helping them leverage the immense power of data and analytics.
